Guns N' Roses |

Possibly the greatest Rock N' Roll band of all time, compare Guns N' Roses
to any band and they could hold their own, founded by Enigmatic front man, Axl Rose who’s name is an
anagram of “Oral Sex” and guitarist Izzy Stradlin’ in 1984. Guns
N’ Roses released their first EP “Live! Like A Suicide”, In 1985.
Following the EP Guns N’ Roses were snapped up
by Geffen Records. Through 1987 the band toured vigorously, their fan base growing all the time, Rose was kicked
out by his band mates during Feb 1988 but was reinstalled after only 3 days. Guns N’ Roses
then released their infamous debut album “Appetite For Destruction” which would go on
to sell 20 million copies and top the US charts a year after release. Unfortunately two fans died during a show in Donington, England, in 1988. The band
were saddened and shocked by the tragic event. In 1989 the eight-track album G N' R Lies was issued, which
featured tracks off their first EP. In late 1990 drummer Steven Adler was replaced by Matt Sorum. The band also
added keyboard player Dizzy Reed for the 1991 world tour, where their exciting and unpredictable performances
brought comparisons with the heyday of the Rolling Stones. Later that year, Guns N’ Roses released the highly anticipated Use Your Illusion I & II.
Both albums sat at the top of the charts, with hit singles “Don’t Cry” & “You
Could Be Mine” helping them along. Stradin quit the band and was replaced by Gilby
Clarke. Slash appeared on records with Michael Jackson and Bob Dylan,
In 1993 the band put together a covers album “Spaghetti Incident?", it featured songs by artists
such as Misfits and even a controversial song written by Charles Manson. Gilby
Clarke was dismissed from the band, he was momentarily replaced by Axl’s former flatmate, Paul Huge..
Huge was then momentarily replaced by Zakk Wylde, before being replaced by Izzy Stradlin’.
After Rose and Wylde fell out. With no new album in sights Slash and Rose started to fight, in 1996 Slash confirmed
Rose's departure from the band but in 1997 the situation was reversed as Axl Rose purchased the Guns N' Roses name. The world now awaits Rose's album "Chinese Democracy"
which has been in the works for over a decade. |
