Britny Fox formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in
1985 when founder Dizzy Davidson met Michael Kelly Smith. With the addition of bassist Billy
Childs and drummer Tony "Stix" Destra, the band was complete. The band got their name Britny Fox from Dizzy’s family tree originating from Wales, UK
and one of his relatives was named Brittney Fox. The band played clubs and bard up the East Coast of the US. Britny Fox recorded
a demo, which was noticed by Columbia Records, who soon signed them. Drummer Tony Destra
was tragically killed in a car accident, and was replaced by Johnny Dee. In 1988 they released their self-titled
debut, which spawned the bands most recognizable song “Girlschool”. The same year Britny Fox won Metal Edge Magazine's 1988 Reader's Choice Award for
Best New Band A second album would surface a year later “Boys In Heat”. Dizzy Davidson left Britny Fox to form Blackeyed
Susan, the band selected Tommy Paris as the new vocalist. With the help of famous names like Poison's Rikki Rockett and Ozzy's
Zakk Wylde, they released the hard rockin' Bite Down Hard. Although it sold only
about half as much as its predecessor, it was an album of tremendous growth. Unfortunately, the band broke up after the album
ran its course. In mid 2000, Britny Fox reunited with Tommy Paris for a mini-tour
of some east coast clubs. They recorded the shows for a live album, Long Way to LIVE, released in
2001. Britny Fox started writing material for their new album. However, due to legal
issues with the record company, the band could not record their material. After finally deciding to release their new album
on Spitfire Records, the band started recording. The result was Springhead Motorshark,
released in 2003. |
