  • Vince Neil tears a calf muscle in Atlanta, but Crue "Carnival of Sins" tour won't miss a beat.

ATLANTA, GA - Motley Crue won't let a little muscle tear get in the way of its rock & roll juggernaut.

Despite an erroneous wire service report that he broke his leg, the band's lead singer Vince Neil partially tore the medial portion of his calf muscle last night five songs into Crue's performance at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA. The show was part of the band's ongoing, successful "Carnival of Sins" world tour that began last February.

Vince's leg gave out shortly before intermission, and the band was forced to end the concert early after Neil was taken to a nearby hospital. Although he was in a great deal of pain at the time, Neil is expected to make a full and quick recovery, according to his doctors, who nevertheless urged him to take some time off. The band intends to return to Atlanta to make-up the show. Tickets from last night's show will be honored at that time. Ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for more information or refunds.

"I just felt something snap in my leg," recalls Neil. "I just couldn't go on."

Nevertheless, Neil is planning to return to the stage Sunday night (9/18) in Memphis, TN, for Motley Crue's show at Desota Arena, despite doctor's orders. No shows will be canceled. "I'm a trooper," said Neil.

Said the band's Nikki Sixx: "He will be able to perform, but can't really jump around until it heals. Luckily, we have a few days off here and there for him to recover."

  • The following article was taken from Iron Maiden’s official message board:

"About 10 minutes before Maiden came on, I was in the center of the pit a few feet from the front railing when a guy comes barging in from the right escorting 4 or 5 people. At first, I tell him to F-off because I thought he was trying to take my spot, but he said he worked for Ozzfest and showed me his passes. He also told me that Ozzy's daughter was with the entourage he brought with him. There were a few girls with him and one of them looked a little like Kelly Osbourne, but I couldn't tell for sure because all of them were wearing bandanas over their noses and mouths. After I heard her speak, I was pretty sure. At that point, I tapped her on her arm and said, 'I really liked you on the show. You were great,' to which she responded, 'Thank you.' There was no doubt at that point. The bodyguard who came with them starting getting chumy with us because he needed a few of us to help him protect the girls from the moshing that would start when Maiden came on. I saw the girls passing eggs, and I said, 'What's that for?' The bodyguard said something to the effect, 'You'll see. Something big is going down. You'll hear about it everywhere after tonight. It's all because Bruce Dickinson made some comments in Detroit dissing the 'Osbournes' reality TV show.' He also said that there were about 60 people in the pit who were going to participate in the mayhem. Most of them were wearing the same Ozzfest shirts. Before Maiden came on, they all started chanting, 'Ozzy, Ozzy...' I actually saw Bruce off to the left of the stage before they came on. His mike was on and he said something like, 'What the f**k?' — probably in response to the 'Ozzy' chanting.

"When Maiden came on, eggs started flying and all these guys were flipping off the band. Nicko had to stop after one song to clean his set. Bruce was obviously very pissed. Thank God they continued their set. At one point, someone through a cup of corn with milk or something. It got all over Bruce, me, and about a dozen other people. Then the technical problems started. The sound went out on about three songs — 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Hallowed be thy Name', and one other one I can't remember. I could not believe what was going on. I was furious because I didn't want the guys in Maiden to think badly of the fans who love them. I do think that Bruce understood because the band continued to play the full set, and Bruce made comments to distinguish the fans there from the guys throwing stuff. Towards the end of the set, Bruce started yelling at a guy in the pit to my left about 10 feet. Bruce said he saw him throwing stuff and wanted the fucker out. It took a long time for security to get him out. The reason why is that one guy from Kelly Osbourne's entourage was holding down the guy security was trying to take out. Eventually security pulled both of them out. After Maiden's set, it was obvious that Sharon Osbourne was in on it, because she came out to say that 'Bruce Dickinson is a prick.'

"Needless to say, it was insane. I was really pissed that Maiden got treated this way. I wanted to enjoy their set and instead got drama from egg throwing and songs cut short by someone pulling the power. Bruce was obviously pissed and the rest of the band seemed a little irritated. It showed in their playing too because some of the songs were sloppy, but of course you couldn't blame them given the situation."

Sharon Osbourne later made an official statement regarding the incident:
"Iron Maiden were chosen for the Ozzfest tour because the Ozzfest committee felt they were a good band, plus the fact that they had not done shows in the U.S. for some time. From day one, Bruce Dickinson started berating Ozzy and belittling the Ozzfest audience. He stated he 'didn’t need a reality show to give him credibility'; 'We're not just some f*cking reunion band'; and continuously complained about the sound system, saying that when he comes back to America he'll have a better one. I understand he hasn't toured in the U.S.in these size venues in a while and no longer understands the political structure of things. Out of 200-plus bands over the last 10 years, he has been the only person who hasn't had the Ozzfest spirit. He thought he was at a battle of the bands, always making other comments about the other artists.

"Might I say, the rest of the band are gentlemen and have a great professional attitude. The crew are absolutely great. But how sad it was, after 10 years, that this little man tried to ruin it for everyone. The bands of Ozzfest don't even look at Ozzfest as touring, but as its heavy metal summer camp. Bruce is in fact a jealous prick and very envious. None of his tirades were directed at Sabbath, only Ozzy. Steve Harris [Iron Maiden's bassist] personally came to Ozzy in San Bernardino and apologized for Bruce's behavior this summer, stating that he and the rest of the band were 'embarrassed' by their own singer. It also offended me every night how he took out the English flag in America. There are American boys going to war alongside the English boys every day. How dare he forget the American troops on their home turf? He has had no respect for the American audience he has been playing for, stating in an interview, 'When you do the 'hits' tour here [in the U.S.], the audience is smug, and there's a sense of self-satisfaction, like, 'We got what we wanted…I'm looking at an audience that is self-satisfied and happy and fat, and getting what it wants and isn't prepared to get off its ass..'

  • Reuters.co.uk is reporting that religious groups in Croatia are up in arms over the imminent arrival of shock-rocker Marilyn Manson for a concert.

But rallying to the banner of free speech and perhaps a little shock-value of his own, Manson has found one unlikely defender — a Catholic priest.

"How could Manson turn young people into satanists and drug-addicts in the two hours of his act," daily newspaper Vjesnik quoted priest Anton Bobas as saying.

Bobas, who leads a heavy-metal band of his own called Glasnici Nade (Messengers of Hope), says most of Manson’s critics have never heard his songs or seen him perform.

The lone priest finds himself fighting a rearguard action against Christian groups from the Istrian peninsula ahead of the concert on August 22 in the northern Adriatic town of Pula.

Protestant organisation Oaza wants the concert banned, while seven Catholic priests offered to pay damages to the organisers if the concert was cancelled, arguing the band's lyrics and image promote satanism, drug-use and violence.

Bobas said the best concert he ever attended was seeing Manson live in Hamburg, Germany, three years ago.

But even Bobas tempers his support.

Despite the music, Manson was a rather dark persona and he would not recommend anyone — especially young people — to attend the concert, he said.

Hey fans there has been allot of stuff going on and some rumors about Ajax being arrested again, Eric joining Faster Pussycat as a permanent member, a new Murderdolls record and Blownaparts drummer Jesse Mendez playing in a new band with former Metallica bassist Jason Newstead. I received a phone call from Ajax he told me that he could clear some things up. One the record is coming along smoothly and that fans should not stress because he promised a cool rock n' roll record and he will deliver.

Secondly he also cleared up some rumors. Ajax said that on January 1 2005 he was arrested and released while driving under the influence of a controlled substance and that he is dealing with legal issues right now and that he hopes to have everything behind him ASAP. Ajax told me that Eric has not mentioned anything at all to him about Eric joining Faster Pussycat and that that is news to him. Ajax also said that Eric is his friend and that he supports anything Griffin does. The singer also said that no Murderdolls record to his knowledge is being planned either. Ajax confirmed that Blownaparts drummer Jesse Mendez has in fact been jamming with former Metallica bass player Jason Newstead but that Jesse is not quitting The Napoleon Blownaparts and is only jamming with Newstead as friends. At the end of our conversation Ajax also promised a press release to his fans ASAP to officially clear up and set the record straight. I will make sure to keep you all posted. Hope this has helped.”

  • Cinderella drummer Fred Coury recently spoke in an interview with NewDealers.com about how his band — one of the biggest rock acts of the late '80s — was seemingly wiped-out by the grunge explosion of the early '90s.

"I'll tell you about the Kurt Cobain [(Nirvana) thing, he knew what he was doing," Coury said. "I mean, if you don't want the fame, don't go on tour, don't go on MTV, and if you don't want the money, there are plenty of kids out there with cancer that do need it. I mean, to blow your brains out in your 10,000-square-foot mansion is ridiculous. He should have been in a small, one-bedroom apartment and should have given all his money to cancer research. So I don't buy any of it — I don't buy any of that crap. It's a total farce that they didn't want the fame."

Cinderella are currently touring the U.S as part of the Rock Never Stops 2005 tour, also featuring RATT, Quiet Riot and Firehouse.

  • Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth is rumored to be replacing Howard Stern as Infinity Broadcasting's next radio star after The King Of All Media winds down his run on terrestrial radio. The Roth rumor, which has legs, was started by a report from Steppin' Out magazine's Chaunce Hayden.

In an online post, Hayden wrote: "Howard Stern's successor has been found! It's none other than '80s rocker David Lee Roth. Infinity Broadcasting isn't commenting and Roth has been asked to keep mum until it's officially announced. But an inside source at Infinity has confirmed the signing. Roth auditioned for the job both in L.A. and Boston and got very positive feed back from listeners. Roth has been running ads in trade publications looking for a producer 'For a HUGE radio show.' Roth is said to be taking over for Stern in early September, three months before the shock jocks contract is due to expire."

When reached last night (July 6) about this report, Infinity VP of Communications Karen Mateo told FMQB the company was "looking at a number of personalities to replace Howard" and added there was not an announcement pending. A call by FMQB to Roth's management has gone unreturned.

The Roth rumor could fit though. Diamond Dave has done a couple stints at Infinity outlets WZLX/Boston and KLSX/Los Angeles. If the rumor comes to fruition, it remains to be seen what stations Roth would pick up, as Infinity chairman and CEO Joel Hollander has stated that numerous personalities would likely replace Stern across his current affiliates.

"Just to let everyone know, contrary to what we were initially told by the "agency" (LOL) booking this "tour" to entice us into agreeing to do it, we got a shitty little message on our voicemail rudely advising us that we were not "wanted on the tour" by a "certain someone", so we will not be playing as PEPPERMINT CREEPS on the tour .. • Twisted Sister have dropped out of Demolition Ball 2005, which will be held on the 26th June, at the Newcastle Metro Arena in Newcastle, England. Their replacements will be Hanoi Rocks.Demolition Ball organizers commented: "Scheduling difficulties to fly the band from their German show (Bang Your Head festival) the previous night in time to perform at the Demolition Ball have unfortunately proved impossible to resolve. We and the band have tried every possible way to make this happen, but to no avail."

Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French added: "The logistics became the issue because of the flights to get there and the exorbitant cost of renting a private jet large enough to fit everyone. The ever shrinking dollar played a very real role in this. Losing money is not in the game plan as we play very few shows each year. When we agreed to do this, we were told that the costs could be contained so that it made sense. We never like to do this but since we will be back in November we made this very tough decision."
